Use the lecture-free period in March resp. September to improve your German language skills, get to know new friends and earn 6 credit points.

The international spring resp. autumn course aim to make it easier for the new foreign exchange students (Erasmus and other partnership programmes) to settle into their new university. The course is also open to other participants who are not participating in an exchange programme or who don't study in Göttingen.

in the mornings: intensive German language course in small learning groups. The language course in the mornings covers one half-level (i.e. A2.1 or B2.2). 

in the afternoons/evenings or on the weekend: optional supporting programme incl. language tutorials, day trips, and other free time activities - get to know the town of Göttingen, the surrounding area, and the other participants!

hybrid format: The courses take place as face-to-face / in-person courses on the campus of the University of Göttingen. Alternatively, online participation via live video conference is possible. Please select your participation mode when registering.

Course fees

  • € 475 for in-person classroom course
    includes the German language lessons (in-person participation in the hybrid course on campus) and the supporting programme (two day trips, optional language tutorials, various free time activities). The course book for the German lessons is not included.
  • € 395 for online participation
    only includes the German lessons in the mornings -> online participation in the hybrid course via live video conference. Course book and supporting programme are not included.

German lessons in the mornings

  • 72 lessons / live video-conferences (1 lesson = 45 minutes)
  • small learning groups (7-14 participants per half-level)
  • We offer all CEFR half-levels (according to CEFR), if there is enough demand:
    A1.1, A1.2, A2.1, A2.2, B1.1, B1.2, B2.1, B2.2, and C1.1.
  • All skills will be trained (speaking, writing, listening and reading comprehension, grammar).
  • written final exam
  • certificate with 6 credit points can be acknowledged as "external academic achievement" and transferred as DaF (German as a foreign language) course/examination component to the ToR (Transcript of Records).*

  • free time activities (guided town walk, cooking evenings, sports, etc.)
  • 2 day trips: to the Harz mountains (hike, lunch and bob ride) and to the city of Kassel (Grimm World museum and hillside park Wilhelmshöhe, lunch at one's own cost)

Cancellation policy:

-If you cancel you registration until 18 February 2024 you will get your complete course fee back.¹
-When cancelling your registration between 19 February and 5 March 2024 we will keep a cancellation fee of € 75 and you get back the rest of the fee.¹
¹minus bank fees for non-European transactions
-No refund of the course fee is possible when cancelling your registration on or after 6 March 2024.
